So, with no further adieu, the Oscar goes to:
BEST PICTURE: 12 Years a Slave I will be very surprised if this film doesn’t win. My choice? Gravity.
BEST ACTOR: Matthew McConaughey Definitely the front-runner, and deservedly so. Outstanding performance by one of the nicest guys in the biz. Chiwetel Ejiofor, also deserving, the potential upset winner.
BEST ACTRESS: Cate Blanchett No competition here. Stellar work from one of the world’s great actors.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Jared Leto Safest bet of the night. Mark your ballot and move on.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Lupita Nyong’o Hoping she wins. Thinking she’ll win. “Eat the fish, bitch!” Nope.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Her by Spike Jonze Should win, altho there are some legal issues over…thievery! So proceed with caution.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: 12 Years A Slave by John Ridley Sentimentally pulling for my old pal Craig Borten and his partner Melisa Wallack and their Dallas Buyers Club script (20 yr labor of love), but I think 12 Years is a safe pick.
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Emmanuel Lubezki, Gravity Sure, the CGI effects are phenomenal, but there’s still a lot of in-camera brilliance here.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: The Wind Rises Have not seen any of the nominees, but I’m familiar with this filmmaker and he’s the real deal.
BEST COSTUME: Catherine Martin, The Great Gatsby
BEST EDITING: Gravity
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: Gravity
BEST ORIGINAL SONG: “Happy” by Pharrell Williams from Despicable Me 2
BEST MAKEUP & HAIR: Dallas Buyers Club
BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: The Great Gatsby
BEST SOUND EDITING: Gravity
BEST SOUND MIXING: Gravity
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Gravity
